My Favorite New Yoghurt: Aussie-Style Noosa

2011-04-29 13.33.22

Ahhh yes, I remember the first time I ever tried Greek yogurt.  Mmm MMMMM it was so thick and creamy; I was sure that it was some sick joke my friend’s mom was playing on me when she told me it was healthy.  Turns out there is no hoax - Greek yogurt is actually ridiculously good for us and an excellent source of protein.  Oh yeah, it tastes like you’re eating freaking dessert too, so that’s a plus.

Now I am normally pretty close-minded to trying other types of yogurt because I am into my Greek routine but you know what two words got  me to open my heart (and my mouth) to this new Aussie-style brand?  Strawberry Rhubarb.

My mom works at an organic and natural foods co-op so she is always up-to-speed on the hottest new products that come out.  She introduced me to Noosa Yoghurt the first week it was on their shelves and since I have seen it becoming more available in all grocery stores and I know why!  The people want it; this stuff seriously satisfies me as much as a ginormous piece of the meltiest chocolate cake.

What is so good about it?

I still haven’t quite figured out what classifies something as “Aussie-Style” but I know that I like it.  It is similar to greek yogurt in that it is thick and creamy, but this company makes it in small batches and adds a bit of honey to sweeten.  It comes in multiple flavors – blueberry, raspberry, passion fruit, honey, peach, mango and the best by far which is strawberry rhubarb.

I don’t really know how else to describe the consistency other than saying it is like eating wet velvet.  Really, really delicious wet velvet.

Another reason I like Noosa?  It’s real.  It doesn’t boast any of that no-fat, low-calorie, fake sugary flavoring bull shit that other yogurt brands seem to think we are looking for in our food.  No.  This stuff is made from seasonal fruit puree and real milk from real cows that have been fed real, hormone-free grains and alfalfa.  Their containers are clear so you can see the contents inside which is symbolic of how transparent their nutrition labels are, as well.

So give it a try! And let me know what your favorite flavor is.  Who doesn’t like a little Australian indulgence now and then?

  3. Allie –

Thanks so much for your review! We’re thrilled that you like our product and appreciate you sharing your thoughts via The Nutritional Epiphany.

To answer your question about what “Aussie style” means – our yoghurt is set, not strained, like Greek style yoghurts. Because of that setting process, we are able to offer the velvety creaminess that you noted.

In terms of flavors, look for Lemon & Passion Fruit coming later this spring!

Thanks, again, for your kind review.

    Best regards,
    Jen for Noosa Yoghurt

Thank you for stopping by my site and explaining the difference! I am very thankful already for Aussie-style yoghurt preparation obviously, but it’s nice to know now what that means :)

I am nxiously awaiting the new flavors… hopefully my local grocery store starts carrying them right away!!

  4. I absolutely love Noosa yoghurt!! Especially the strawberry rhubarb. I am very fortunate that the produce delivery service I use (www.doortodoororganics.com) has started carrying this so I get it delivered every week. It is the smoothest, creamiest yogurt I’ve ever had and the ingredient list is so short, and clean – it doesn’t get any better than this! I’ve even taken a liking to a more European type breakfast like fresh granola mixed with yogurt, simply because I am looking for ways to work this food into my day ;)
