Current Favorite Snack Bars
There are few snacks that are easier to grab and more portable than snack bars. While there are many on the market that aren’t necessarily made with highest quality ingredient and are mass produced by shady companies, there are a few really neat businesses that are making delicious products from great stuff.
Here are some of my current favorites to help you make a decision amidst all of the overwhelming possibilities!
There are a number of factors that contribute to whether I am partial to a snack bar or not, mainly:
-the degree of social responsibilty of the company that makes them
-the quality of ingredients
-the taste, duh
-the uniqueness of the concept and/or the flavors
There are many brands that pass the test, but the following five are my favorite for right now.
I am obsessed with Pashen and their product because it is a Minneapolis-based company so they have won my heart already. Their philosophy is to use raw, organic and tasty ingredients. An excerpt from the company website explains what I love about their product best:
“Pashen bars are made using only the highest quality freshest raw and organic ingredients. Our ingredients are living foods. They are sprouted and dehydrated to maximize nutritional content. Ingredients include buckwheat, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cranberries, goji berries, black and white sesame seeds, honey, coconut oil, almond butter and cacao, all raw and organic using the perfect amount of cinnamon and vanilla. Pashen bars are loaded with flavor and nutriton.”
These bars are made at a little (but growing) bakery in Connecticut that is committed to providing great tasting Gluten-Free products with “nothing to hide”. Everything is made in small batches at this humble bakery using high quality ingredients and they taste absolutely delicious. Available in natural foods stores like co-ops and Whole Foods! My favorite flavor is definitely the Coconut Cashew.
Pure’s philosophy is pretty simple – they believe in the endless benefits of eating simple, whole food… and so do I! Their bars contain natural and organic ingredients, are vegan/vegetarian-friendly and gluten-free.
The company is also very altruistic – they partner with a non-profit called the Lunchbox Fund with the mission of supporting child nutrition and fighting hunger.
Another thing I like: the bars taste great. They are filling and provide me with a lot of sustained energy throughout the day.
This is a really, really great company that wants to help people to do kind things for your body, your taste buds and the world. The KIND mission is embodied in the KIND Movement which encourages people to do unexpected acts of kindness. Love it.
I like KIND Bars for a number of reasons. The company places an emphasis on featuring high quality ingredients such as super foods, whole grains and all natural fruits, grains and seeds in their snack bars. The bars are all gluten free and there are no confusing, foreign ingredients in them. What I like most about KIND Bars, however, is the variety of interesting flavors that they offer. My favorite are the Pomegranate Blueberry Pistachio and Almond & Coconut.
I mostly like Luna Bars because of the way they taste and crunch. They have a high protein content so they’re great for after working out and the company supports a ton of initiatives for women, which I am ALL ABOUT. I don’t really obsess over reading the labels of these suckers since I like the taste more than I care to know about every ingredient in them. Current favorite flavors are the iced oatmeal raisin and toasted nuts & cranberry.
